My good friend Zack has a blog which looks pretty fancy. I want him to get the most out of his time spent writing blog entries. I churn between one and three a day, but it’s not like that for every one, some can only manage one every couple of days. In any case, getting the most out of your entries is important.
Zack does not know much, if anything, about SEO. He’ll probably ask what SEO is when he reads this too. SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. It’s a good thing. It’s basically is organizing your content on a page in a particular way so that a search engine gives it more favor. Please note that SEO isn’t illegal in any normal course of optimization. However, it can approach blacklisting if you go overboard.
I noticed that these are the things Zack’s Blog didn’t have.
- No Fancy Perma Links – These should be links without ?,in other words, query strings. Normally human readable links can do amazing things for search engines.
- Unspecific titles – If you read, “IWanna go Fast” in your RSS Reader, would you pick it over, “Comcast goes 14253 kb/s”? I’m leaning towards the second choice since I already know what the entry is about. Search Engines will like that too, since it’s title text in an H1 and in the title tags.
- Blog’s Name – Maybe this is more personal opinion however, the blog’s title is wrapped in an h1 and into the title tag. Because of that, anything you put into it, Search Engines will see and favor. Make sure it’s something you want indexed. Like your name.
