Important
I have recently encountered a (zwunzi) virus originating from Free Sound Recorder. This does not appear to be an isolated case according to this Mozilla support thread. Therefore, I adamantly suggest avoiding this software and looking elsewhere for something that is not dangerous.
Free Sound Recorder, from the CoolRecordEdit Corporation, is wonderful.
I wanted to keep track of some history orally, rather than spending all of my time typing it all. I did this with windows voice recorder at first, but it’s not really the best solution for anything. I was looking around on download.com and found Free Sound Recorder.
- Let’s you record for free. And not just free as in free until we make you pay. Free as in free for first to 9471987th use.
- Allows for huge spans of recording. I’m testing right now, however, I’ve gone up to a 30 minute record so far. It’s impressive. It’s memory usage has stayed at 12,680MB. It has a buffer which goes to a file every so often. Looking at the files in the Program Files folder shows it has a file merger system. Neat, huh?
- Only 11.5MB for the download.
- A few skins I believe. Default looks good too.
- Records not only from mic but also output. Yes, that’s right. You can now record all of your favorite shoutcast stations without any hassle!
- Really easy to use.
- Words with XP/Vista.
- Comes with CoolRecordEdit. That’s pretty amazing too, although not free. Basically you can edit your recorded sound. It’s actually cool.
I give this program 9/10. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to get my streaming radio to be recorded although once I did, smooth sailing from there on. I totally recommend Free Sound Recorder!
