I’ve wanted to be able to open Command Prompt from any folder and already have the directory set accordingly automatically. I finally got fed up with having to type the entire path of my folders so I went to find a way to get Command Prompt (CMD) from the Context Menu (CXM) of a file.

A quick google search gave me a few options. I skipped the first link (filetransit doesn’t seem reliable) and choose some one’s post on how to add Command Prompt to Context Menus. Daniel Petri, the one who wrote this excellent guide gives three methods to add a CMD button to CXMs. I tried the third method which applies to Windows XP and earlier, but in Vista of course it does not work. So then I opted for method two. It’s a little freeware application that adds a bunch (and I really do mean a bunch) of options to your Send To context item in your CXMs. It can be downloaded here.
The first method I didn’t opt for was a Microsoft add-on. Isn’t it funny that Microsoft really does make free software people want but don’t bundle it with their system while the files are in the range of kilobytes. (I think you seriously could compress the entire SysInternals product line into something less than 5MB.)
