I got an email from Microsoft today asking me to take their Windows 7 RC survey. While I was taking it, you could see the mind set of the people who wrote it and the company behind them. Let’s just say it was slightly geared towards people who were not very technical. It also asked questions that would make you compare your experience to OSX from Apple. At least it acknowledged Linux as legitimate OS. I was very interested in these questions because Windows 7 is Microsoft’s big chance. Overall, I gave Windows 7 RC good marks in all but a few things.
I have mixed criticism for the new taskbar. I like that it looks new and it works better with thumbnails, grouping, jumplists, and so on, but I also am not used to it doing that grouping and knowing where my windows are isn’t easy sometimes.
Anyway, I thought I’d share some of the survey questions, just for laughs. First, one that asks me which is more stable, OSX or Windows 7. Honestly, it was hard for me to pick, but the amount of time I run on system is what defines the stability. For instance, I reinstall Vista every so often to maintain a clean state. The Macs at school run on a slow network that is probably three years old and is in need of some serious memory and CPU upgrading.
How would you compare Windows 7 Release Candidate with Mac OS in terms of stability?
Select one.
Windows 7 is much more stable than Mac OS
Windows 7 is somewhat more stable than Mac OS
Windows 7 is neither more nor less stable than Mac OS
Windows 7 is somewhat less stable than Mac OS
Windows 7 is much less stable than Mac OS
Don’t know
The second one I liked was a free style response question that asks if Windows 7 is missing features compared to OSX.
On what features and/or capabilities—if any—do you think that Windows 7 Release Candidate outperforms the Mac OS?
Enter your response in the box below. Please be as specific as possible.
This last one really really shocked me. (I said I was a student in a 4 year college, full time.)
Once Windows 7 becomes available, how likely or unlikely will you be to purchase Windows 7 assuming it is available to you at a special student price of $30?
Select one.
Definitely would purchase
Probably would purchase
Might or might not purchase
Probably would not purchase
Definitely would not purchase
I can’t believe they are thinking of such a low price for Windows 7. I’ll be an actually college student in two years or so. I think it should extend down to high schoolers but that’s simply because I don’t have any income at this time.
What do you think of Windows 7 RC? Impressed with it? Not happy with it?
